William W. Squire

In Memoriam

May 21, 1930 - February 16, 2018

William Walcot Squire passed away in Murrieta, California on February 16, 2018 at the age of 87.

William is survived by his wife JoAnne Davis Squire, and his three sons Scott, Mike, and Ron.  He is preceded in death by his first-born son, William Walcot Squire.

William was born on May 21, 1930 in Nephi, Utah to William Frederick Squire and Leeta Alice McCune. He attended college at Oregon State for two years before pursuing his flying career full time.  He married JoAnne Davis, his long time sweetheart, in 1956.  After moving to the San Francisco area, William began working for The Flying Tiger Line.  He was hired on as a C46 co-pilot.  He also flew the DC 4 (see picture to right) and the Lockheed Constellation.  He was laid off from his flying job for three years.  He bought and operated a gas service station during that time.  Shortly after, he was recalled to The Flying Tiger’s, he was able to check out as a Captain on the Constellation.  He upgraded to the CL 44.  This upgrade required a move to New Jersey for one year.  Next came the DC 8, and he retired as a Boeing 747 Captain.

William’s passions included skiing, sailing, model airplanes, and all other things pertaining to flying.  William was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He had the opportunity to serve in many positions within the Church and loved his four years serving as a Bishop in the Lake Tahoe Ward.

A funeral is scheduled for 10:00am on February 24, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 23800 Washington Ave, Murrieta, California.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate William’s life.
