In Memoriam
July 25, 1945 - July 26, 2016
Stephen Mallory Hendry, 71, of Charlotte, passed away at his home on July 26th, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, General Augustus Mallory Hendry and Katherine Jo Butler Hendry, and his son, Christopher. He was survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Katherine; his stepsons, Carl (Bo) and Michael (Jennifer) Schremp; his sister, Patricia Manley; his niece, Tara Villagracia and his nephews, Chad and Todd Ryan.
Steve graduated from Arizona State University in 1968. Following graduation, he served in the US Navy for 10 years as a fighter pilot flying F-8s and then F-14s. He completed two tours of duty in Viet Nam and left the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. He went to work for Flying Tiger Line and then FedEx, retiring as a DC-10 captain in 2004. Following retirement, he published two books: American Samurai and Leapfrog.
Steve was devoted to his family. He had many interests, including radio controlled airplanes, computers, and his well-known haunted yard on Halloween. He also loved motorcycling, boating, and other outdoor activities.
An 11:00 a.m. memorial service will be held at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville on Saturday, August 6th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the March of Dimes.
