Our 2023 reunion will be held at the Wyndham San Diego Bayside Hotel from the afternoon of May 26th to our dinner and dance on the evening of May 29th. Embodying Southern California’s laid-back style, our reunion hotel pairs a refreshingly vintage vibe with all the modern-day essentials, including balcony views from every room, an unmatched waterfront location, and complimentary wireless and airport shuttle.
Our Hospitality Suite is at street level providing walking access to the entire harbor side area including the Star of India, USS Midway and Seaport Village. Little Italy is walking distance behind the hotel and the Gaslamp Quarter is a very short ride away.
All that the Balboa Park area has to offer, including the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Air & Space Museum, is also very nearby. For more information and suggestions on sights to see during your spare time, visit San Diego Visitor Info for ideas.

Question and Answers
Why Are Ticket Prices So High This Year? When we signed the contract in 2019 to secure the $185 per night hotel rate, we knew that San Diego would probably be an expensive reunion to attend, but we had no idea that it would be this absurd. Below is a short list of the “perfect storm” economic, financial, contractual and social situations that have contributed to this.
- In all previous years for as long as we can remember, Sandy was able to lock in the cost of Food and Beverage along with the hotel rate. None of the hotels in the local San Diego area that we considered would allow this in 2019 when we signed the contract.
- U.S. inflation has risen to its highest level in four decades since 2020.
- In the past 3 years since signing our contract (2019) the state of California has become one of the most expensive in the country to hold reunions and meetings.
- The cost of beer and wine has doubled from the price we paid in San Antonio. The cost of catering has gone up 40%. We are actually subsidizing the FA lunch by $15 per plate, the main buffet by $1 per person, and are just hoping we don’t loose too much on the Hospitality Suite bar.
- Deep pocketed corporations and larger groups are willing and able to pay these rates
- We're still in a post-pandemic surge to groups to meet. Everyone is still getting out more and more
- The jump in Registration Fee is very contrasting for the following reason. For San Antonio we deliberately subsidized the cost of the reunion after our 2-year hiatus. We charged $20 per person for registration to pay for beverages and rent of our Hospitality Suite, when it actually cost us $42 per person. We can't sustain that kind of loss two years in a row. Even still, at $75 per person, we will most likely be in the red.
Why have hotel room rates risen from $185 to $259? Our original block of 120 rooms quickly sold out when group hotel reservations opened on September 1st. Sandy White has been able to go back to the hotel sales department three times to add rooms to our available block rooms. Unfortunately to secure these additional rooms the rate for weekend nights (Fri-Sun) rose to $259. The rate for weekday nights remains at $185.
Can I Bring A Guest? – Guests are always welcome at FTLPA reunions as long as their registration fee is paid and their host attends the reunion with them.
What is the Cancellation Policy? – Your registration can be cancelled up to two weeks before our event, Friday May 13th. If you pay online by credit card then your refund will be reduced by the 3% fee that we incur. We must submit our final headcount and deposits 14 days before the reunion starts and then the funds are unfortunately out of our hands.
I’m just coming to attend the FA Lunch. Do I still have to pay the registration fee? Yes, there are many costs involved throughout the year in planning the reunion, providing beverages and renting the meeting spaces involved. All attendees must share in these costs.
Will there be merchandise sold at the Hangar this year? Yes and No. Select merchandise left over from previous reunions will be made available at the check-in desk when it is manned. San Antonio was the last year that a dedicated room was rented to provide this opportunity to members.
Will there be a group bicycle ride this year? No. Unfortunately both rental shops close by are not allowing group reservations. Sandy White is currently working on discounts at Wheels of Fun which is immediately adjacent to the hotel on Harbor Drive.
