August 13, 1955 - September 2, 1996

Bob was hired by the Flying Tiger Line on 5/14/1979, was sitting in the right seat as a B747 F/O in JFK at the time of the FedEx merger, and continued on with Federal Express before tragically dying in a fatal airplane crash in Alaska in 1996.

Below is from Bob's online obituary from the Anchorage Daily News September 6, 1996 and click on newspaper obituary to enlarge.

Anchorage resident Robert Lester ''Bob'' Fisher, 41, died Sept. 2, 1996, in a plane crash near Peters Creek. A Requiem Mass was conducted at St. James the Just Holy Orthodox Church. Another service was held at the Dallas Mortuary Building, in Dallas, Ore.

Mr. Fisher was born Aug. 13, 1955, in Dallas. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Oregon State University and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a pilot for the Flying Tigers from 1979 to 1989, when he went to work for Federal Express. Mr. Fisher moved to Anchorage in 1993 and was a member of St. James The Just Mission. He helped build a home in Anchorage for Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed reading, computers, history and aviation. His family said: ''Bob was a special man who always had time for friends and family. He loved Alaska and the people he met here. Especially dear to him was the community of Flying Tigers pilots and their families.''

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Missionary Apostolate Hocas, c/o Father Gene Huggins, St. James The Just Mission, 4430 MacAlister Drive, Anchorage 99515. Arrangements were handled by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary.
