In Memoriam

November 25, 1922 - June 11, 2022

We've received the sad news that Lamont W. "Shad" Shadowens flew west yesterday, June 11, in Woodside, CA at the age of 99. He leaves behind his wife, Katherine Shadowens and his seven (7) children listed below:

Daughter Sandra K. Rowland and sons Lamont W. Shadowens, Jr. (also a Tiger pilot hired in 1977) and Roger Ray Shadowens all born to to Lamont and Clara Kyoto Hiyashi in Honolulu, Hi.  His first born child, Sandra (pictured below), wrote a beautiful tribute to her father and requested that it be posted to this page.  It also contains more pictures of Shad, his family and his friends.

A fourth daughter, Karen Cook-Kodama was subsequently adopted by Shad.

His other two daughters, Leah and Tina, were most recently born to Lamont and Katherine.  Another child, Elizabeth K. has also recently been found.

In total Shad had six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

On the side, Shad earned his law degree and was instrumental in helping to solidify the standing of the Flying Tiger Line Retired Pilots Associaiton, as it was called then, when he served as president from 1989 to 1992.  Hired in 1953 he eventually worked his way up to VP-Flight Operations upon retiring in 1982.

Please keep the Shadowens family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  Flowers will be sent from all of the members of FTLPA.  Please send your own condolences to his wife, Kathy, at 170 Hardwick Road, Woodside, CA 94062-2323

Rest In Peace Shad. We will miss you.
