Richard
Taggart, of Bellevue, died at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue on
Sunday, April 13, 2008. He was 84 years of age.
Dick was born on February 27, 1924 in Los Angeles, California. He
was raised in Los Angeles, where he was graduated from high school.
Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. serving in
the South Pacific during World War II. He married his childhood
sweetheart, Beverly Schoene, in Sacramento, California, on July 13,
1944. They lived in Hollywood for a brief time before making their
home in Reseda, California. Their only child, Candi, was born in
1957. In 1961 they moved to Simi Valley, California, and much later,
to Issaquah, Washington, in 1978. Dick worked as an airline pilot
for Flying Tiger Line in El Segundo, California, until his
retirement in 1984. At the time of his death, he was a resident of
Sunrise Assisted Living in Bellevue where his charismatic presence
and kind, gentle spirit charmed just about everyone with whom he
came into contact. His adoring wife of 59 years, Beverly, preceded
him in death on April 18, 2003.
Dick was a member of the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA). He and
his wife enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as dining out
after meandering through garage sales, swap meets, and antique
stores. They both liked having their ''wee tiddlies'' (evening
drinks) while watching the woodland animals that often appeared
outside on their deck waiting for a handout. In his later years,
Dick enjoyed having a light breakfast at Little Jon's in Eastgate
before going to have his morning coffee with his pals at the
Crossroads Cafe'. He especially enjoyed spending quality time
laughing and reminiscing with Candi during their almost-daily lunch
dates to Chili's, (Stuart Anderson's) Black Angus, La Casita, Red
Robin or Denny's. On the days that he received dialysis, they would
both either dine in his room #204 at Sunrise, or would wander
downstairs to the dining room to join the other residents for lunch,
and sometimes dinner as well.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Candi Taggart of Bellevue;
her fiancé Charles Jackson, also of Bellevue; his grand-cats Lord
Boulder and Brisco County Jr. of Bellevue; his grand-dogs Dixie and
Sir-Boom also of Bellevue; and latest addition, Sir-Pup of Columbus,
Georgia, but soon to reside in Bellevue with the other members of
Candi's and
